Decooda already had a proof of concept, so we began the process by conducting a heuristic evaluation of what was already implemented. We documented usability and UX issues that we found in a heuristic evaluation report.
Next, we researched the market to find out what features were being offered by leading survey applications and reviewed the list of potential features with the product owner to determine what additional functionality to incorporate into the redesign.
In a survey application, users are looking to ask questions that will get the answers they need from their customers. We designed the survey application to facilitate this process intuitively so that researchers can focus their efforts on asking the right questions at the right time.
Conversations with end users revealed that many of the features researchers were looking for were more around what happens after the survey is built than in building the survey itself. Survey distribution, marketing, analysis of the data all needed to be robust.
With this in mind, we incorporated product features that would give survey customers the tools they need to efficiently configure the questions, flexibility in distributing surveys, and robust user-centric analytic algorithms.
